I started volunteering with WP in April 2016, helping out with MPS (meet-the-people sessions) under Mr Low Thia Khiang’s ward. Subsequently I also got involved in some community events and house visits.
The reason I volunteer with WP is because I believe there needs to be more competition in our political scene, as monopoly often renders complacency. Not to discredit the incumbent party, many of us can recognize the good job done (that outweighs the bad). WP is by far the strongest alternative representation, and I hope that my contributions can make a difference, no matter how small it may be.
My most memorable WP moment so far was the Singapore pledge recitation led by Pritam Singh during the GE 2011 rally. I have never seen the tremendous scale of a whole stadium of strangers reciting the pledge together; so full of conviction and from the heart, it was overwhelming and got me emotional.
If I could change one thing about Singapore, it would be for the young people to have more awareness and less apathy towards politics. Because every choice that the government makes, it affects your life, your family, or someone you know.
When I am not volunteering for WP-related activities, I am usually busy working or reading these days. Life is quite hectic that I have been neglecting my multiple interests such as playing music, learning and exploring about East Asian languages and cultures.
